De FBI gaat het onderzoek naar e-mails van de Democratische presidentskandidate Hillary Clinton heropenen. Dat zegt FBI-directeur James Comey in een brief aan het Congres. De FBI zou informatie gevonden hebben over “e-mails die pertinent lijken voor verder onderzoek”. Er wordt nagegaan of de e-mails geheime informatie bevatten. Volgens verschillende media gaat het niet om e-mails van Clinton zelf, The New York Times meent te weten dat het gaat om drie e-mails gevonden op “een toestel” van Clintons medewerkster Huma Abedin en haar ex-man Anthony Weiner. Die laatste kwam in contact met de FBI omdat hij seksueel getinte boodschappen naar minderjarigen gestuurd zou hebben.
Jason Chaffetz, Amerikaans parlementslid, tweette dat de FBI-directeur hem heeft verteld dat er “e-mails bestaan die pertinent voor het onderzoek lijken” en dat het onderzoek wordt heropend. Het zou gaan om nieuwe e-mails van of over Clinton die eerder nog niet bekend waren en die nu gevonden zijn in een apart en niet-gerelateerd onderzoek. Regeringsbronnen melden dat de e-mails alvast niet van Clintons privé-server komen, maar het is officieel niet duidelijk waar de e-mails dan wel van komen.

The Council of the EU has announced its decision to sign the free trade agreement with Canada (CETA), as well as to request the consent of the EU parliament to conclude the agreement, it said in a statement.
